Morning Star & Bunkieland

Nelson's best kept secret: a log cabin retreat with scenic views

A Dream Built With Heart

How a quiet patch of forest above Kootenay Lake grew into Morning Star & Bunkieland; twenty-five years in the making.

The Beginning

The story of Morning Star & Bunkieland

When I first came to this property in 2017, I didn’t just see land, cabins and trees. I saw possibility.

I imagined a place where people could step away from busy lives, reconnect—with nature, with someone they love, or with themselves—and leave feeling lighter than when they arrived.

I wanted to create a small world where people could gather, share meals, listen to the birds and simply be.

A Little World of Its Own

What It Turned Into

Each part of Morning Star & Bunkieland has its own personality.

There is the playful Funky Bunky, the colourful Boho Bungalow, the tiny Bitty Bunky and the cozy Morning Star Log Cabin.

Around them, shared spaces—the kitchen, sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower, hammocks, fire pit and forest trail—invite guests to spend time outdoors and enjoy being together.

Nothing here was designed to feel ordinary or mass-produced.

Built With Many Hands

How It Came To Life

Although I carried the dream, I didn’t create it alone.

Many people helped bring Morning Star & Bunkieland to life—clearing land, repairing buildings, building structures, caring for gardens, cleaning cabins, supporting guests and stepping in when needed.

A place like this is never built by one person alone.

But it often begins with someone who can see what it might become.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who believed in the vision and helped make it real.

In Her Own Words

I tend to focus on what’s next—the next idea, improvement or project.

But every milestone along the way has reminded me to pause and recognize what’s been created.

I didn’t do every part alone, but I carried the vision, believed in it and brought the right people together to make it real. I’m proud of what we’ve built.

Grateful to everyone who helped along the way.

And especially thankful to the guests who return, share their stories and bring this place to life.

Thank you for being part of the Morning Star & Bunkieland story.

Come as you are. Slow down. Breathe deeply. And stay awhile.🌿💝
