About Your Host
The Person Behind the Gathering
Twenty-five years ago, Maria started hosting as a way to make ends meet for a young family. What she found along the way was something bigger: a gift for bringing people together. Every space at Mistiso's Place, Morning Star, and Bunkieland carries her own eclectic, artistic touch, built for slowing down together.
She still hosts every guest like family. It's why people keep coming back, and why they keep bringing others with them.
An Invitation To You
Some of our best weekends started with someone saying, 'Let's just get together.' Whatever brings you here, there's room: room for the big groups and the quiet couples, room for the people who want to hike all day and the people who want to do nothing but read on a porch.
Four cabins, one shared trail, and countless different reasons people have found their way here. We've created a place where people can slow down, reconnect with nature and each other, and leave feeling renewed.
Who are we bringing together?
Friends, family, the people you don't see enough. Tell me who's coming and what kind of weekend you're picturing, and I'll help you find the right cabins for it.
Discover
Morning Star Log Cabin
The Quiet You Didn't Know You Needed.
A private queen bedroom and loft above Kootenay Lake, where mornings start slow and evenings end even slower. Wander down to the shared sauna and cold plunge when you're ready to feel completely still.
The Boho Bungalow
Cozy Enough to Be Called Home.
Tucked into the forest, Boho Bungalow is made for slow mornings, sipping coffee and breathing in the fresh air.
Wood walls, a bed by the window, granite steps leading outside.
Wander
The Funky Bunky
Made for Being Together.
Funky Bunky keeps things close inside, with one queen bed, and wide open outside, with a porch built for lingering and a fire pit that pulls everyone in. This is where the group ends up once the sun goes down.
Unwind
The Bitty Bunky
Like Nowhere You've Slept Before.
Curved wooden walls, a yacht-style interior, and a perch in the trees you won't find anywhere else. Built by hand by a local woodworker, Bitty Bunky is tiny, a little whimsical, and the stay every guest ends up talking about.

Not your ordinary stay.”
Ken— Morning Star & Bunkieland
Excellent view of Kootenay Lake and Nelson, BC from the deck. The dog loved all the grass; I loved all the flowers; the weather was perfect, lots to do. "
Guest from Oregon — Morning Star Cabin
